Fire Prevention Day at Rice Elementary

Today, members from the Wright Twp Fire Dept took Engine 2 to Rice Elementary School for Fire Prevention day. Members taught the Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade classes about Fire Prevention week and equipment used in the fire service. The students got a tour of the Fire apparatus and also got Junior Fire Helmets.

Crews from Station 189 were out after the storm for several days shoveling fire hydrants in Wright and Rice Township. We apologize for any delays this may have caused to people travelling in the area.

Members from the department stopped at the CHS fundraising event that presented Transformers Show Truck and some other visitors. The booster club offered rides for a fee in Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee Trasformer vehicles.

Crews from Wright Twp and Fairview Twp conducted a confined space rescue drill at Fairchild Semi Conductor in the Crestwood Industrial Park.We are planning another drill for the late spring or early fall of 2016.

Members from WTVFD demonstrated to FEMA, PEMA, NEC, Luzerne County EMA and PPL the ability and site prep for an emergency at the Susquehanna Steam Nuclear Facility located in Salem Twp. Station 189, WTVFD, is one of the decon stations certified by FEMA, PEMA and PPL to decon Radiological Hazards.

Members from station 189 practiced some water movement drills and improved on pumping skills for the operators.

A crew from 189 along with rice pd and school officials are conducting a practice drill today with the elementary students. This drill is to practice restricted movement and lock down procedures along with evacuation in the event an emergency should exist.
